Getting started
Upon first launching FoxTrot, you will be prompted to get started by indexing one folder. For instant gratification, choose a moderately-sized folder containing PDF, HTML, Word or text files that contain keywords you are familiar with.
FoxTrot will comb through the folder and its sub-folders seeking eligible files to index, and will show progress in building your first index. When done with the first indexing process, you will be able to go on to searching.

FoxTrot Search Server
What is FoxTrot Search Server
Extending FoxTrot Professional Search to index and retrieve at the server level, FoxTrot Search Server is made of three components:
- FoxTrot Search Server, a set of mostly faceless processes to be installed on Mac OS X (XServe, Mac OS X Server or Mac OS X Leopard machine) or Windows (Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP)
- FoxTrot Admin, a Mac OS-X based administration application to configure and monitor FoxTrot Search Server
- FoxTrot Professional Search 2.5, the client-side application for performing client-server searches
FoxTrot Search Server installation and configuration
▼ Initial setup of FoxTrot Search Server for Mac OS X
• Copy the entire "FoxTrot Search Server" folder to the "Applications" folder

• Double-click "FoxTrot Search Server" application
This application is a front end for the initial setup of the faceless background servers in order to prepare them for being administered by FoxTrot Server Admin remotely or locally. There are three areas of decisions to be made: 1) Start - whether to have the search server start automatically - after the server's login window is dismissed, in a user session, or - at server startup before the login window completes (typically for Mac OS X Server / X Serve configurations) in which case "As a System-wide Service (daemon) is checked. 2) Client connections One active, the server will be visible on the same subnetwork to FoxTrot Professional Search client application's search source pane. In addition, you may also enable a fixed port of your choosing, typically when wishing to make the search server accessible from the Internet (this would imply running on a machine with a fixed IP address or suitable routing arrangement). 3) Administrator Account This facility allows the addition of an administrator login name and password to the existing list of accounts that you will later edit from FoxTrot Server admin. When running the first time, you will have to add at least one administrator account or you will not be able to administer your server. Finally, choose Start, then quite the FoxTrot Server Admin front end and proceed to connecting to it via FoxTrot Search Admin, either from the local host or a different machine.
